Trailmakers for PC and XONE is a multiplayer-oriented sandbox game that sees us explore an extensive world using unique, player-designed machines. The game was developed by Lightbulb Games, a debuting team established by former employees of Press Play, a studio responsible for titles such as Max: Curse of the Brotherhood or Tentacles: Enter the Mind. Interestingly enough, the game is not a new project, and it is an expansion of a mysterious Project Karoo that was in development by Press Play.
The action of Trailmakers takes place in an open world inspired by the desert areas of Colorado. When it comes to mechanics, we are dealing with a sandbox that sees the players traverse the extensive world of the game in a quest to appoint the greatest explorer alive. The vast area also contains additional goals, such as searching for oases and havens, scaling enormous mountains, or racing against the clock or other participants.
The game offers the ability to build a personalized vehicle using a set of tools and ready-made elements similar to LEGO bricks. Trailmakers does not limit the players’ imagination in any way, offering the ability to build both cars and airplanes, as well as boats. A vehicle can be modified or rebuilt in order to increase its performance or terrain capabilities, as well as repaired, as the vehicles are often subjected to crashes and devastating leaps. The authors have decided to create a game that mixes engaging gameplay and an opportunity to develop creative talents.
Similarly to most modern sandboxes, the game contains both single player and online modes. The latter offers the ability to engage in multiplayer journeys or entertaining races.
Trailmakers for PC and XONE offers detailed graphics that combine post-apocalyptic, desert environments with pleasant visuals and special effects.
